Museums at Night next explodes into life from Wednesday 16 to Saturday 19 May 2018 and the fun is repeated every Halloween.
Twice a year, not-for-profit cultural publisher Culture24 invites all UK museums, galleries, libraries and heritage sites to throw open their doors after hours to showcase their treasures in unexpected ways.
Museums at Night is an opportunity for museums and galleries to come together around a single, simple campaign that is attractive to venues, audiences and the media. It’s a social experience, where visitors can get involved, delve deeper into fascinating subjects and perhaps enjoy a cocktail or two with friends.
Museums at Night in May ties in with the European campaign, La Nuit Des Musées, and takes place on the weekend nearest to 18 May, International Museums Day. Museums at Night in October coincides with Halloween, and often sees more museums programming spooky events.
The festival has grown rapidly since Culture24 took it over in 2009, with over 500 participating venues, 700 events and 100,000 visitors each year. The BBC covered the festival with an hour-long documentary programme hosted by Will Gompertz.
To everyone involved in the festival, venues and visitors, we hope you have a wonderful time!
