iVisit... The Charterhouse re-opens its doors for tours on Tuesday 1st June
/The Charterhouse, the seven-acre heritage site in Clerkenwell Islington, is delighted to announce it is opening its doors to the public once more on Tuesday 1st June. From that date there will be two tours a day on offer (including both tours of the buildings and of the gardens) from Tuesdays to Saturdays.
The site, which dates back to 1348, and includes buildings, interiors and collections dating from each century since, has been closed to the public since the first lockdown in March 2020, to prioritise the health and wellbeing of the older and more vulnerable residents of its almshouse.
The Charterhouse is looking forward to welcoming visitors again – and excited to reveal dramatic changes that have taken place over the last year – particularly the complete refurbishment of its Great Chamber.
Tours will be limited in size and further arrangements will be in place to ensure social distancing and Covid safety.
They are extremely grateful both for funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, and from Arts Council England (the Culture Recovery Fund) which has been vital to their development and their post-pandemic potential to reopen.
