iVisit... The Bar @ Courthouse Hotel

  • The Bar Courthouse Hotel, 19-21 Great Marlborough London, W1F 7HL United Kingdom (map)

'The Bar' is a fitting venue for a former courthouse, located just off the lobby of the Courthouse Hotel, this trendy lounge is another quirky gem within the hotel.

The Bar features the original prison cell blocks from the prior courthouse, as cosy VIP rooms, It's popular for both evening drinks or social gatherings and as a casual meeting spot through-out the day.

The three original holding cells are used for private use and can host up to 8 people. These can be booked or are available on a first come first serve basis.

On the drinks menu are a number of legal-themed signature cocktails like the Behind Bars Martini and the Thieving Daiquiri, along with the popular classics; a wide range of international beers, spirits and a comprehensive wine-list. Delicious bar snacks and light bites are also available.

The Courthouse had some pretty famous cases over the years…. John Lennon’s sensational court case regarding the sale of sexually explicit lithograph drawing was thrown out on a technicality in 1970. Mick Jagger spent time here defending his name when it was alleged he was caught in possession of cannabis (and Marianne Faithful!). Keith Richards received a £205 fine here in 1973 for possession of marijuana, heroin and mandrax as well as a Smith and Wesson revolver and an antique shot gun, both held without a licence. Oscar Wilde also had the start of his ‘Queensbury’ case heard in this building.
