Looking for a little peace in the middle of London, then visit the London Library on St. James Square. It was founded by Thomas Carlyle in 1841 who was on a quest for ‘Silent Study’ as he found the British library too noisy, full of snorers and wheezers ! Past members have been the likes of Charles Dickens, Winston Churchill amongst others. Day Membership is £15.
