iVisit.... An Englishmen, An American & An Indian walk into a bar...

On Sunday 5 February 2017, fellow Monty Python members Terry Gilliam and Michael Palin will come together, for one night only, to talk about their life and work in a one-off fundraising event for the Roundhouse. The night, hosted by Sanjeev Bhaskar, is in celebration of the venue’s 50th anniversary as an arts centre and 10th year since reopening as a charity.

It promises to be an unforgettable evening of storytelling, improvised skits, hilarity and possibly the trio’s own take on some iconic British gameshows.

All proceeds from the event will go towards the Roundhouse’s work with young people. Each year thousands of 11-25 year-olds have the chance to develop their skills and confidence through creativity – in music, media or performing arts projects. Especially those from backgrounds that can feel limiting – or even hopeless.

Terry Gilliam, Roundhouse Ambassador; “As Mike and Sanjeev are such chatterboxes, it may be difficult to get a word in edgewise.  I may feel the need to perform some of my wildly interpretive dance moves in the midst of their dialogues.  A warning will be given so that the weak of stomach can exit the room in time.”

Michael Palin; "Sanjeev Bhaskar and Terry Gilliam are two of the most gifted and extraordinary talents working in Britain today. I look forward to joining them on stage to ask about money they owe me and why they took the best dressing room”

Sanjeev Bhaskar; “I look forward to supporting the excellent work of the Roundhouse and finding out who Terry Palin and Michael Gilliam really are and asking them what have they ever done for us?  Obviously the films, the shows and the travel, that goes without saying. But apart from that, WHAT have they ever done for us?”

Marcus Davey, Chief Executive and Artistic Director, Roundhouse said; “We’re delighted to welcome Terry, Michael and Sanjeev to the Roundhouse stage for what is sure to be an incredible night of laughs and mayhem. They’ve been such great supporters of the Roundhouse and of our work with young people over the years so we’re really thrilled that they’ve chosen to do this one-off fundraiser for us.”

The show is being produced by the Roundhouse in collaboration with Holly Gilliam of HDG Projects.

Get set for the wildest comedy event of the year

Roar with Laughter - Eventim Apollo, Friday 18 November 2016

It’s time to prepare for an evening of wild entertainment as ZSL’s Roar with Laughter returns to the Eventim Apollo on Friday 18 November.

Back for its fifth year at the iconic London venue, comedy show Roar with Laughter will be an evening of hilarity featuring some of the country’s top comedians, who will be raising a giggle and vital funds for the Zoological Society of London’s (ZSL) work for wildlife around the world.

Star performers Dara O’Briain, Seann Walsh, Alan Davies, Aisling Bea, Kevin Eldon and brand new host Rob Deering* will have the audience hooting all evening with their quick-wit and hilarious sketches.

James Wren, Fundraising Director at ZSL, said: “We’re so excited for this year’s Roar with Laughter. The performers are brilliant, and we’re thrilled they are joining us in standing up for wildlife.

“With animals around the world facing unprecedented threats to their survival, Roar with Laughter will help us to raise vital funds and awareness for a cause that’s sadly anything but funny. By simply purchasing a ticket, those looking for a laugh will help us to make a difference.

“Whether you howl, roar or snort, get your best chuckle ready for an evening sure to have you rolling in the aisles.”

Iconic species including elephants, rhinos and tigers face threats from the illegal wildlife trade, habitat destruction and climate change, and urgent action is needed to ensure their survival. Conservation charity ZSL is working in more than 50 countries to tackle these threats and protect animals to safeguard a future #WithWildlife.

Roar with Laughter will take place at the Eventim Apollo, Hammersmith, on Friday 18 November, doors open at 7.00pm and the show will charge into action at 8.00pm.

Underbelly joined forces with Southbank Centre in 2009 to launch Udderbelly Festival, an 8-week extravaganza of comedy, circus and family entertainment inside the famous upside-down purple cow. They've extended the festival every year, and in 2015, the seventh Udderbelly Festival played a whopping 15 weeks on the Southbank. The festival won Best Festival at the London Lifestyle Awards in 2012, and the upside down purple cow is now an iconic and much-anticipated annual fixture on the London skyline.

Underbelly is a UK-based live entertainment company that runs several festivals and events across the country. Founded in 2000 by directors Ed Bartlam and Charlie Wood to operate one venue at the Edinburgh Festival, Underbelly has grown to include the Udderbelly and London Wonderground festivals in London, Udderbelly Festival in Hong Kong, The Comedy Hullabaloo in Stratford-Upon-Avon, as well as an ever-growing programme in Edinburgh. Through Underbelly Productions, they also produce and promote live shows for UK and international touring. Underbelly also produces large scale events, most recently including West End Live, Pride in London and the Rugby World Cup Fanzone in Richmond.

In short, Underbelly is all about entertainment. In 2015, over 1.1 million people bought tickets to their shows and attractions and they had over 5 million visitors to their events. The giant upside-down purple cow is now an iconic annual fixture of the London, Edinburgh and Hong Kong skylines.
