iVisit.... MIME LONDON

London International Mime Festival (LIMF) was founded in 1977 by producer, Joseph Seelig, and mime-clown, Nola Rae.

It is the Capital’s longest established international theatre season. Taking place each January, its programme spans the spectrum of contemporary visual performance including live art, physical and circus-theatre, mask, puppetry, movement and object theatre.

Among a host of premieres and artists new to the festival, Mime London are delighted to bring back some of visual theatre’s most admired names in this special year including acrobat-genius Mathurin Bolze (Cie MPTA), Charleroi Danses’ Kiss & Cry and Mossoux Bonté, German Mask-theatre experts Familie Flöz, and Gandini Juggling with a hugely expanded version of its glorious Pina Bausch tribute, Smashed.
Elsewhere there’s surrealist Greek glam live art, manga-inspired drama from Italy, and extraordinary object theatre exploring neuroscience, exile, arson and the Shakespeare authorship debate. And much more!
LIMF is one of the UK’s longest established international theatre festivals, its essentially wordless programme cutting edge and defying categorization.

Heart of London Business Alliance Presents

“Impulse”

as part of the ‘Pause and Play Festival’

Leicester Square, Autumn 2016

Light up singing seesaws: ‘Impulse’ first showcased at Montreal’s Luminotheìrapie festival, arrives in London’s Leicester Square Gardens, 5 – 27 October 2016

Heart of London Business Alliance is delighted to bring a new installation to Leicester Square Gardens with ‘Impulse’. Part of the “Pause and Play” Series, ‘Impulse’ comprises 15 interactive acoustic, light up seesaws that will illuminate and produce sound when in motion.

Following on from the success of Swept Up in October 2015, Heart of London has collaborated with 4 Our Creative Arts to present Pause and Play: a programme of changing world-class artistic and often interactive installations, never before seen in London, that will run from October 2016 through into 2017.

Emma Huckerby, Destination Marketing, commented: “Heart of London Business Alliance aims to bring events that reflect the creative and theatrical nature of the area, encouraging the community and visitors to enjoy the Square and appreciate the Gardens.  We feel Impulse does just this.”

Stephan Dowers, 4 Our Creative Arts added: “We seek artists with works that are surprising, diverse, engaging, fresh and fun to reflect the tone of Leicester Square and it’s 1.5million weekly visitors. Impulse delivers exactly that.”

5-27 October: Impulse, 15 interactive and luminous seesaws

Impulse will transform Leicester Square into a space of urban play through a series of interactive acoustic illuminated seesaws that respond and transform when in motion. The seesaws form repetitive units of light and sound that can be activated and played by the public to create a temporal, ever-changing event. Impulse embodies ideas of serialism, repetition, and variation to produce zones of intensity and calm.

When not in use, the seesaws stabilize to the horizontal and remain at a lower glowing level. When activated by users and inclined, the seesaws, wired to LED lights and a speaker, will augment in light intensification and emit a sound sequence. The vertical motion creates a dynamic light and sound wave. Impulse is an ever-changing urban instrument.

The installation, commissioned by Heart of London Business Alliance and supported by Westminster City Council, is free to visit.

iVisit.... Art In A Corner

In Tokyo 1966, The Beatles create Images of a Woman, the only known painting they ever made.

It’s amazing to think that this incredible, abstract composition was painted by the ‘Fab Four’ simply to pass the time. Flying in at the height of Beatlemania, The Beatles arrived in Tokyo ready to play five concerts at the Budokan, Japan’s premier martial arts arena. Because of security fears for the band’s safety and protests against their intrusion into such an iconic Japanese venue, all four were kept on lockdown inside the Tokyo Hilton between shows. To keep them entertained, manager Brian Epstein brought in a set of art supplies, laid a large paper canvas on a table and placed a lamp in the centre. He then left four of the most famous men in the world to get creative.

Inspired by Images of a Woman, ART IN A CORNER has invited some of the world’s biggest bands and solo-artists to follow in The Beatles’ footsteps to create their own Images of… paintings.

Each participating group received a special ART IN A CORNER art kit – supplied by art specialists Cass Art – containing materials matching those used by The Beatles in 1966.

The completed paintings will be brought together for a series of special exhibitions. Featured artwork will also include backstage images from The Beatles’ time in Japan, captured by renowned British photographer Robert Whitaker, as well as limited edition project prints and posters, produced in collaboration with the ART IN A CORNER participants.

THE ART IN A CORNER paintings will be shown in a series of exhibitions across the UK – held throughout September and October, 2016 – before being sold in support of two of the country’s leading arts and music charities.

iVisit.... Backyard Cinema unveil the 'LOST WORLD'

London's favourite theatrical cinema experts Backyard Cinema who were behind the Winter Night Garden at Winterville and Romeo + Juliet in St Mary's Church, are set to unveil a forgotten jungle in the heart of South London.

Adequately named the ‘Lost Word’, Backyard Cinema will be screening a fantastic selection of classic action and adventure films, including childhood favourites such as The Jungle Book, Hook and The Goonies as well as Hollywood blockbusters Jurassic Park, Predator and The Legend of Tarzan.

If seeing these famous classics on the big screen again wasn’t enough already, the themed cinema experts have created their very own urban jungle to screen them, decked out with tropical trees and plants, jungle sounds and temple ruins.

Launching this Friday 16th September, the ‘Lost World’ will see ticket holders enter through a secret entrance of temple ruins, and have to navigate their way into a land that time forgot. Once making it to the Jungle in one piece, customers will find a screening room decked out with giant beanbag seating, a huge screen and state of the art audio equipment. Grab a jungle themed cocktail from the bar and relax into a beanbag as the jungle adventure turns into a cinema experience like no other.

Starting in its founder's back garden Backyard Cinema is a roaming, theatrical, cinema that shows a wide selection of films in a variety of iconic, unusual and immersive locations both in and outdoors around London. Often creating an immersive environment around the movie using in depth set builds, actors and live music, each show becomes a unique evening out, whilst staying true to its original ethos: somewhere cool you can watch your favourite films with great food, drinks and all your mates.

iVisit.... The Mall Wood Green's FREE summer entertainment for Kids

  • The Mall Wood Green (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

As a way of keeping the children of North London entertained over the summer holiday until Sunday 4th September, The Mall Wood Green has created its very own free children’s activity book full of games, puzzles and fascinating facts.

The North London shopping centre donated hundreds of the activity books to junior and primary schools around the area before they broke up for the holidays, and invited pupils into the centre to complete the games inside. Those who didn’t receive a book at school can collect one from the Ask Me point at The Mall.

The complimentary booklet also contains a special hunt around the scheme where kids can put their detective skills to the test to help The Mall Monster find his six medals. Youngsters simply need to keep a note of where they spot The Monster’s beloved treasures, hand in their answers at The Mall’s Ask Me Point and claim their very own medal.

Isaiah Fapuro, Marketing Manager of The Mall Wood Green, commented:

“We know how difficult it can be to keep kids entertained during the holiday so we wanted to provide parents and children with a little something to help keep them busy! Together with our Sport the Difference event we’re hoping the families of Wood Green and beyond enjoy a fun filled summer break.”
