Eleven stars from the Women’s World Cup are coming to play at Stamford Bridge at a match that will be free of charge to the public to kick off the new Barclays Women’s Super League season.

Last week it was revealed Chelsea Women’s opening match is a mouth-watering home encounter against newly promoted Tottenham Hotspur Women, and today the news becomes a whole lot bigger.

The venue for this new London derby is Stamford Bridge and on top of that, all tickets are free for what will be a day out ideal for all the family.

The date for your diary is Sunday 8 September with a 12.30pm kick-off. That weekend is an international break from men’s Premier League fixtures.

It promises to be a big welcome home for the Chelsea Women players who were at the World Cup and a celebration of their performances at the tournament. Blues stars represented six of the nations in France, including three of England’s Lionesses who played the dramatic semi-final against the USA.

Their two Swedes made the semi-finals too, and two of Chelsea’s hot-shot goalscorers, Erin Cuthbert and Fran Kirby, found the net during the World Cup.

The big match at Stamford Bridge against Tottenham will also be a chance to say hello to new arrival Guro Reiten who starred for Norway out in France.

Team Manager Emma Hayes says: “I’m really excited for the fans, the players and everyone involved with the club that we get the chance to play at the home of Chelsea Football Club. It’s an honour to get that opportunity, against one of our London rivals, and it’s the first chance the fans will have to watch all our players who took part in the World Cup.

“Women’s football has moved into the mainstream. It’s being appreciated by the masses, it has developed a whole new fanbase which I hope realises it has these top players right on their doorstep.”

If you have never been to a Chelsea Women’s game before, this is your chance to do so for free in one of football’s most famous stadiums and as well as the 90 minutes of WSL action, as Emma Hayes’ side begin the quest to regain the title they won as recently as 2018, it promises to be a great day out for many reasons – with plenty of entertainment for all the family at the Bridge including face painters, giveaways and other activities with further details to come.

You can book now up to four tickets per person, all for free, and as they anticipate a full house, please only claim seats if you think you are sure to attend, so as not to deny any fellow Blues the chance to be there. Should you book a ticket and then wish to return it, please read the info below.

Please note: Chelsea Women’s season tickets will go on sale this Wednesday. This game at Stamford Bridge is included in the season ticket, however you must still claim a free ticket to this game by clicking here. Your Women’s season ticket card will not gain you access to Stamford Bridge.
