iVisit.... London Review Bookshop

Located in the heart of Bloomsbury, just a Rosetta Stone’s throw from the British Museum, the London Review Bookshop has established itself as an essential part of the capital’s cultural life.

Opened in 2003 by the London Review of Books, it’s a place for people who love books to meet, talk, drink excellent tea and coffee, consume delicious cake, and of course, browse.

Their selection of more than 20,000 titles ranges from the classics of world literature to the cutting edge of contemporary fiction and poetry, not forgetting a copious display of history, politics, philosophy, cookery, essays and children’s books. And their lovely shop, designed by Amanda Culpin of utility, provides the perfect setting in which to explore them all.

Their aim has always been to represent on their shelves the distinctive ethos of the Review – intelligent without being pompous; engaged without being partisan. If you aren’t able to visit them in person, their website will give you a flavour of what makes the shop unique.

Join them in Bury Place, and look forward to finding all the books you know you need, and more importantly, the ones you didn’t know you needed.

iVisit.... Bushy Park

Every year millions of Londoners and tourists visit Bushy Park, the second largest of the capital's eight Royal Parks.

Lying north of Hampton Court Palace, Bushy Park's mixture of woods, gardens, ponds and grassland makes it a fantastic place to enjoy wildlife with roaming herds of Red and Fallow Deer. The park is also home to the famous Chestnut Avenue, a formal Baroque water garden and the beautiful Diana Fountain.

Bushy Park is like a patchwork quilt of English history. It has remains of medieval farmland, a Tudor deer park, 17th century water gardens and wartime camps.

The history of the park is inextricably linked to the palace, yet it has always had its own distinct rural character. The famous Arethusa 'Diana' Fountain forms the centrepiece to the equally famous Chestnut Avenue.

The flat site on which Bushy Park lies has been settled for at least 4,000 years. There is clear evidence of the medieval field boundaries, with the finest example just south of the Waterhouse Woodland Gardens, where there are traces of the largest and most complete medieval field system in Middlesex.

The park also houses The Pheasantry café, which offers a range of hot and cold meals, snacks, drinks, freshly brewed continental coffees, homemade cakes and ice creams and has indoor and outdoor seating. As well as a refreshment stop/mini café serving a deli style catering service providing for all your refreshment needs. Both open daily.

iVisit.... Scooterworks Cafe

Scooterworks Cafe actually used to be a scooter workshop. Then they started serving coffee to waiting customers and – rather by accident – they were suddenly a cafe.

Although the garage is now in Bermondsey, the cafe still feels a little makeshift and cobbled together, which just adds to its late Fifties charm.

With its original Fifties Italian coffee machine and – you’ve guessed it – plenty of scooters and scooter-related memorabilia around this feels equally unpretentious and cool.

iVisit.... Attendant Fitzrovia

Located in the heart of Fitzrovia and 5 minutes walk from Oxford Street, this former Victorian toilet has been lovingly transformed into one of London’s top speciality coffee & brunch cafes. Built around 1890 and mothballed in the 1960’s, the Attendant was dormant for more than fifty years. After two-years’ of planning and restoration, the original Doulton & Co porcelain urinals have become an inspired line with green seating to match the original Victorian floor tiles.

They pull their very own seasonal espresso blend direct from the Attendant Roastery through the shiny La Marzocco Linea GB5 as well as single origin filters from around the world via V60 Drip or Aeropress.

They serve up seasonal home-style breakfast, brunch, lunch menus daily until 4pm as well as granola and other treats direct from the Attendant Kitchen. They also sell beans and high quality brewing equipment. Using organic unhomogenised Estate Dairy milk and The Rare Tea Co. loose leaf teas.

Unfortunately, they don’t take reservations as they find it fairest to operate on a first come first serve basis.
